gleaning the gleaning cloth

The most exciting part of the summer gleaning workshop was when I said "ok, go for it, time for gleaning!"  After choosing which panel they wanted to cut for their apron, each of the team gleaners went for it with their scissors.  I was very amused by finally seeing this happening and I couldn't stop giggling!  It was evocative of the picking of the plums in the summer in a very delightful way - yay!!!

thank you team glean!

The gleaning day yesterday was fab!  I had so much fun with my fellow gleaners and want to acknowledge their contribution - you know who you are! mmmwwhhaaa! xx

last day and time for gleaning workshop!

Today is the last day for summer gleaning, so the last chance to pop down to GPO for a look.
From 12.15 today myself and team glean will be cutting the cloth, gleaning it, to make some experimental fashion products.  The summer gleaning canopy will be transformed into a pop up shop - yay!  Hope to see you down there!

pssss, lunchtime today

Last lunchtime with summer today at 12.30!

5 days only

Don't forget peeps, summer gleaning is on for 5 days only and this is the 3rd day!  On Friday at midday we will be cutting the cloth up during our gleaning day workshop, so if you want to see it in it's entirety you better scoot on down.  Do Design is open from 9am - 9pm.  Hoorah!
Here's some pics of the cloth in action to entice you :o)

lunchtime with summer

I'm getting ready for the first lunchtime with summer session today at 12.30.  It will be an informal chat about summer gleaning stuff, while we eat soup prepared by the broadsheet micro kitchen.  Should be fun!

last workroom peek

Summer gleaning opened today at the Do Design Space - yippee!  I'm posting the last of the process from the workroom - testing the 3M hooks that have made it all possible to hang in the heritage space of the GPO!

window gleaning

More sneakies of the summer gleaning cloth - yay!  I've had another exhausting but fruitful day at the hothouse.  Time for serious zzzzzzz

first cutting and a hothouse

What an exhausting day!  Summer gleaning was bumped in this morning, swiftly followed by a flight up to Brissy for Tony Fry's hothouse.  Too tired for very much in the way of coherent text, but wanted to show another taste of what's to come...first scary cutting of the cloth in the workroom last weekend, it seems like an age ago!

summer gleaning aprons

The aprons we'll be making on gleaning day will be based on a lovely vintage organdy apron loaned to me by my sis and bro in law.

I've made a sample in the plain non-printed poly voile I'm using for my gleaning cloth.  It's giving a sense of what the gleaning cloth will do...it's gleaning the winter garden through the window :o)

a whole lotta cloth

I spent the entire weekend grappling with my summer gleaning cloth.  I have some beautiful sneaky peekies of it in the days to come, but in the meantime, just check out the size of it!  My poor old bernina looks like it's going to be eaten.  Bear in mind, this is a voile - a very light weight fabric, so consider the amount of it that makes it look this bulky!

p.s. I noticed a happy accident in the second pic - my gleaning friend Agnes Varda peeping out from under the machine bench, courtesy of a gift from one half of S!X

floor for gleaning & winter dog days

Here's a little sneak peek of the floor for 'Summer Gleaning'...recycled carpet tiles from McMats recycled carpets.  The dogs loved it and had play fights like they do on the summer lawn.  Bodes well for a successful replica of summer underfoot!

summer gleaning cloth beginnings

It's been in the pipeline for months and now finally I'm working on it intensively!  My first exhibition Summer Gleaning will be part of the Do Design Space at the State of Design festival.  Lots more info at the Summer Gleaning facebook page  - check out the details of the events.

Here's the beginnings of the cloth from a couple of weekends ago...it caused lots of illustrator crashes on my poor macbook air, but I got there in the end!
